A callus forms where something rubbed long enough. It protects you. It also deadens you. Uncalloused is for people who noticed that — and decided to stay tender anyway.
feet carry every journey — literal and emotional. fleshy, furry, or forged from titanium. this is a place where the body is taken seriously, which means it is also a place where the body is taken lightly, ribbed, celebrated, grieved. kinky is accepted. tenderness is required. and Rue is always on your side.

meet Rue.
R
Rue has walked every road — some of them barefoot, some in borrowed shoes, at least one in a cast. She holds a soft spot for weird questions, olfactory science, and the kind of coping rituals that don't make it into wellness magazines.
She answers what your podiatrist won't, what your therapist circles around, and what your HR department would prefer you never asked. She does this with shame-free rigor, occasional irreverence, and the conviction that nothing is unspeakable if it's asked honestly.
She is not your doctor. She is not your HR rep. She is, however, always on your side.
One letter appears here every month, free. The rest — and the ability to write to her directly — live on Substack.
how the callus works
Send her something real. Anonymous submissions welcome. No name required. Just the question that's been sitting in you.
She reads everything. She responds to what she can, in the order that feels right. Not every letter gets a public answer.
Adult questions get adult answers. Labeled clearly. No shame either direction.
She is educational, not clinical. Rue is not a licensed provider. She'll tell you when something needs a real doctor.
Rue is a pen name. The person behind her has credentials she's happy to discuss privately. Write to uncalloused@protonmail.com if you're a journalist, sponsor, or clinician. The column stays anonymous. The person doesn't have to.
The full archive is on Substack. Paid subscribers get every letter and the ability to submit directly.
